New products
We will be introducing several new products this year beginning with oligosaccharides separated by high resolution gel filtration of controlled enzymic digestions of dermatan sulfate and chondroitin sulphate. The provision of GAG-oligosaccharides is based on the notion that protein binding sequences in GAGS stretch across relatively short sequences rather than the entire polymer. Our GAG fragments are designed to assist in determining the structural basis of GAG-protein interactions. Later in the year we will be marketing a more extensive range of hyaluronic acid fragments together with saccharides derived from the K5 polysaccharide. The latter will be interesting because in addition to their common identity to the non-sulfated regions of heparan sulfate they are isomers of hyaluronic acid and will enable a critical assessment of the binding specificities of the ubiquitous hyaluronan polymer.
96-Well Heparin/GAG Binding Plates
These plates offer a simple, versatile, rapid and novel way of investigating GAG-protein interactions and screening for inhibitors of GAG-protein recognition. The great advantage of these plates is that they bind GAGS without the need to chemically-modify the GAG – no special conditions are required. The GAGs bind at room temperature in physiological buffers and the immobilised GAG retains its protein binding activity. Although we are not always privy to the details of specific applications customer satisfaction with the plates appears to be very high as reflected by a high frequency of reorders. Iduron offers a wide range of GAGs and GAG-oligosaccharides that can be used in conjunction with the plates to study binding specificities (see Technical Bulletin on GAG Arrays).
